One Woman’s Opinion: AVON Mascara

This is a new Blog Category that I will feature once a month.  I hope you like it.

Since I have had my own AVON business for more than a decade, I have tried many of the AVON Products that are available for purchase.   What better way to educate my customers or my readers about AVON’s product line from one women’s perspective.  Naturally, I have not tried all of the products, as certain products may not be for my skin type or needs.  Therefore, I do rely on my customers who try other products and get back to me with their opinions.  This information I then can pass on to everyone.  Either way, aren’t you more comfortable purchasing something knowing someone you are acquainted with has tried that product or service?

For the last couple of months, I have tried three of AVON’s Mascaras.  Each product was slightly different in the effects that they were to produce.  All are comparably priced from $7.50-$8.50.

First I tried Astonishing Lengths Mascara:

From the name, I am sure you can deduce as to the results of this product.   I do not have overly long lashes to begin with, and they are fine.  I found that it did not add much length to my lashes and it took a few coats to build up.  Be careful to let dry before blinking, you may need to remove some residue from upper lid and below eye.  This mascara did not smudge as the day went on.  To remove mascara was simple with my facial cleanser and water.

Next, I tried Supershock Mascara:

The first time I applied this mascara, I felt I was poking my eyelid with the brush.  The brush is designed very differently from any mascara that I have ever tried.  Molded plastic combs, which are stiff, make up the bristles.    However, once I got used to using the applicator, the mascara went on easily and cleanly.  My lashes appeared fuller and somewhat longer.  No clumping and no need to remove anything that may have stuck to my eyelid or under eye area.  I did not look like I had raccoon eyes at the end of the day.  My facial cleanser and water was all I needed to remove this mascara.

Lastly, I tried Super Curlacious Mascara:

I figured that if my lashes weren’t long, curling them might make them appear longer.  After use, I don’t feel that my lashes curled, and it seemed to take a few applications to see a difference.  While residue was not a problem directly after applying the mascara, I did notice that a few times during the day, it felt like the mascara was flaking off and my eyes felt itchy.  To remove this mascara was a little more difficult as well.  I highly recommend using an Eye Makeup Remover Lotion.

Of the three the mascaras, I found that I liked Supershock Mascara the best.  But, that’s just “one woman’s opinion”.  Why not try for yourself and let us know what you think.  What mascaras have you used (doesn’t have to be AVON brand) and what were your results?  Please share with us in the comment section.

  1. Liked your article on mascara, nice to see how honest you were about the products you sell. I too have thin and not very long lashes, so mascara really does matter. I not tried Avon amscara in awhile and use a Mabeline product that sometimes is good and other times I find it dries out quicky, likely because it has been on the shelf too long. Wish that stuff had dates as to when it was made.

  2. I have blonde, short and thin lashes! YUCK!!! I have been successful with Lancome and Stiletto by maybeline. I’m never affraid to try new products because who knows maybe there is something better. Some questions tho:
    Does this mascara condition?
    Is there a base?
What about flakiness? (I’m a contact wearer)

  3. Hi Michelle and Vikki-thanks for your comments. You both seem to have a liking for Maybeline, which a great product line.

Michelle, addressing your issue of Mascara drying out quickly. It could very well be dried out; however, how you take your brush out of the tube can make a difference. After you twist open the mascara, do you then pull the brush straight out of the tube? I have found that if you continually twist the brush as you are taking it out of the tube, the brush will collect more mascara from the tube. Generally, you really should be replacing your mascara about every 3 months to avoid bacteria issues.

Vikki, I can definitely relate to your situation. I have short lashes as well, and although mine are not blonde, they are not dark at all. None of the mascaras that I mentioned are lash conditioning. AVON used to offer a clear base mascara, however, I believe they have discontinued it. I have not seen it for the last 6 months. Lancome does offer a great Mascara Base called Lancome Cils Booster XL Super-Enhancing Mascara Base. Out of the three mascara’s that I mentioned, Astonishing Lengths is an excellent mascara for contact lens wearers, because it is fiber-free. However, all of AVON’s mascaras are “hypo-allergenic, ophthalmologist-tested”.

I hope this information is helpful too you. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.
