If you find there are times when your eyes appear to be puffy, here are a few natural ways to reduce that puffiness.
1. Reduce your salt intake. Many times a high sodium diet will result in water retention. Make a mental list in your head of what types of foods you add salt – can you do without or lessen? Some foods that we eat that are low-calorie can have a higher salt content. Make sure you check the ingredients. American Heart Association says that we should have less than 2,300 mg of salt per day.
2. Fast Fix – did you know that caffeine can help reduce puffiness around the eyes? Apply a cold steeped black tea or green tea bags to closed eyes two times per day for about 15 minutes each. Caffeine is said to draw excess fluids away from the area and improve circulation.
3. Try sleeping on two pillows or one large pillow each night. If you sleep with your head propped up slightly, this will help proper fluid drainage to reduce swelling.
Have you heard of or tried other methods to reduce eye puffiness? Your thoughts are very much welcome.

Hi Debbie
I agree with your listed ways to reduce puffy eyes. In addition, sleep is a major factor… get at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night (I usually get 8-9 hours). Also, if tea bags are not available, use cool tap water compress in the upright position for a few minutes. Chilled cucumber slices work too!

Shannon, thanks so much for sharing your ideas!! I had heard of the chilled cucumbers, but haven’t actually tried that for myself.
