Beauty Tip of the Week: Has Your Eye Makeup Gone Bad?

 Eye Shadow PowderHow long have you had your eye makeup?  Did you know that after time it will go bad and could affect your eyes?  While we all know we really shouldn’t share eye makeup, bacteria can develop just from our own use.  Here are some guidelines to help you help your eyes stay healthy.

 

As with mascara, liquid eyeliners can be a breeding ground for bacteria due to the moist environment in the tube.  This can cause eye infections and sty’s.  It is a good idea to replace liquid eye liners about every 3 months.  If you are using pencil eyeliner, you can keep them for up to two years.  With each use, you are using a fresh surface after you have sharpened it.  However, did you know that you should sanitize your sharpener regularly with rubbing alcohol?

Eyes shadows expiration dates can vary.  Cream shadows should be replaced every six months.  Powder shadows you can be kept for up to two years.  They are less apt to become contaminated because of the dry environment.  However, if you are applying them with a wet applicator, replace it after six months. 

It is a good practice to go through your eye makeup every so often to ensure your eye safety.  In addition, over time your eye makeup can dry out, become packed down or get clumpy.  Therefore, you will not get the results you want from your eye makeup.  Keep your eyes safe and looking as beautiful as ever.
