Hot showersThis is the time of year, when the weather is cooler, and we tend to love to take hot showers.  Be careful.  Hot water is very drying to the skin.  To help avoid that tingling, scratchy dry skin feeling, try these tips.  When showering, cooler water is better; however, if you really must turn up the water temperature, don’t stay in the shower as long.  Using a moisturizing shower gel/body wash will help.   If you suffer from Eczema, a friend of mine gave me a great tip.  Try applying a little Vaseline to the eczema patch(es) before getting in the shower.  The Vaseline will protect your skin from the water.  Wash those areas at the end of your shower.   When towel drying – just pat, don’t rub.  Leaving your skin somewhat damp, apply a good body moisturizer, preferably one with Vitamins A, E, and C.

Remember, it is as important to drink plenty of water in the winter as it is in the summer.  Always better to hydrate from within.   Hope these tips help.  Please let me know what you think.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

AVON BCC Moisturizing Bar SoapOctober is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  I have lost a dear friend to Breast Cancer, have friends who have lost sisters to the disease, as well as know friends and neighbors who have fought the disease and have beat it.  No matter what the situation, we all know that it is a rough road to travel.  That’s why being a supporter of AVON Foundation has been so important to me.  Funds raised by Representatives for the AVON Foundation go to helping women receive screening and care; they provide Grants to Centers of Excellence and funding for clinical trials; and provide materials for better education to increase awareness.

I strongly recommend going to the AVON Foundation webpage to view their 2007-2008 Impact Report.  There you can see all the accomplishments of this organization.  What impresses me is their allocation of funds ratio.  So many times, organizations raise funds, and some money goes to the cause, but more goes to management of the fund.  That seems backwards to me.  AVON Foundation’s ratio is 3% Management; 19% Fundraising; and 78% for Programs and Grants.*

AVON Foundation’s fundraising is partly done via their Pink Ribbon Products.  100% of the profits of most Pink Ribbon Products go to the AVON Foundation.  They are AVON Breast Cancer Crusade Flip-Flop Necklace; Breast Cancer Pink Water Bottle; Breast Cancer Rhinestone Flip-Flop; and Breast Cancer Comfort Clog.  This year AVON has two new Pink Ribbon Product additions.  One is the AVON Crusade Tote, and the other is the Breast Cancer Crusade Moisturizing Bar Soap.   The soap is a gentle, moisturizing glycerin-based soap for face and body with a refreshing grapefruit scent.  100% of their profits go to the Foundation.

 AVON BCC Tote

Each Pink Ribbon Product that is purchased comes with Breast Health Resource Guide.  It is filled with lots of information regarding Early Detection; Treatment Options; Reducing Risk of Recurrence; Resource Listings for the entire US; and Glossary of Terms.  On the back of the form is the option to become a monetary donor (without the purchase of Pink Ribbon Products).  These donations are tax-deductible (Tax ID# is provided) and there is also an option for your employer to match your gift.

I am proud to be one of 742,000 US AVON Representatives who help support the AVON Foundation.  Representatives do not receive earnings from these products.  However, for me, I earn the good feeling that I am helping a wonderful cause.  If you would like to help support the AVON Foundation’s Crusade during the month of October (or any other month of the year), please visit my website.  Maybe you already have a Representative, please call that person, email or place an order through their website.  You can make a difference.

Now, I truly do not was to discount all of the other great organizations that also fundraise to help end Breast Cancer. Please share with us, in the comment section,  information regarding the organizations that you have supported.  Any contact information that you may have, please provide.  The more the word gets out the better.
